General Merchandise Manager (GMM) - Bealls/Burkes Outlet Stores




  • Develops and ensures execution of the category’s product strategy to drive the Outlet Brand to achieve sales and profit plan. Recruits, hires, coaches and develops category associates to achieve financial objectives and prepares them for broader responsibilities.



  • Extensive interaction with the Outlet President, Chief Merchandise Officer, Outlet Marketing VP, Planning VP, Category DMMs, Product Development, Buying teams, Distribution teams, Store teams
  • Frequent interaction with merchandise vendors
  • Serves on the Bealls Outlet Executive Committee



  • Develops long range vision of the category by integrating customer insight, competitive information, market intelligence, and trend awareness in cadence with the Outlet Brand overall strategy
  • Synthesizes the divisional strategies within the category strategy and partners with DMMs, VP of Planning, and Divisional Planning managers to ensure and enhance execution
  • Explores and develops new business initiatives in conjunction with the Outlet Brand strategy
  • Develop seasonal sales plans along with VP of Planning
  • Conducts weekly business reviews with DMMs to analyze and react to current business trends utilizing open to buy reports and class analysis in order to drive sales and profit in the short term
  • Works monthly with DMMs and DPM to review 90 day forward forecast of businesses to identify risks and opportunities
  • Spends significant percent of time “in market” working with DMMS, buyers, vendors in order to strategically review and enhance the Outlet sourcing matrix
  • Visits stores weekly with category team in order to ensure consistent, customer centric execution of category strategies
  • Leads category recruitment efforts in order to build a strong bench. Accountable to ensure that category associates exceed performance objectives, and receive frequent performance coaching and recognition. Accountable for ensuring that timely and fair “exit decisions” are carried through in his/her category
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned



  • Direct responsibility to coach and develop category DMMs. Partners with DMM to ensure consistent recruitment, hiring, coaching, and development of buying teams



  • 4 year bachelor’s degree is required
  • In depth experience leading DMMs and buying teams required
  • At least 5 years of off price buying experience is required
  • Frequent market travel experience, including non-domestic, is required
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrable skills in Microsoft suite to include Outlook and Excel necessary
  • Fluent in English
